Our Chief Strategy Officer Patrice Schneider appeared on the EVPA Sound Funding podcast to discuss MDIF’s work and some of the challenges facing press freedom in the world today.
Patrice shared his thoughts on the rapidly developing media businesses landscape, changing audience habits and some of the main challenges to press freedom, including the growing phenomenon of media capture, as governments and their business allies buy out media companies so they can spread their own propaganda and narratives.
The conversation also covered some of the key challenges facing our clients, such as economic, physical and online harassment by governments, and responses and solutions they have identified. Patrice also highlighted the impact on media of the war in Ukraine, which has led to the closure of some outlets – including several of our clients – in Russian occupied areas.
